Sony PS3-PS2 Emulation News

Opposable Thumbs reports that the PS3 will be backwards compatible for PS2 games via software emulation.

FYI, the PS2 actually had PS1 hardware on it, so PS1 emulation was easy. Software emulation means the software on the PS3 will emulate the PS2 hardware…this is OK if the PS3 is powerful enough to match the hardware performance of the PS2. The only issue may be compatibility.

Whereas the PS2 supported nearly every single PS1 game, the same may not be true for the PS3 with PS2 games.
